It's not every day you have the crazy idea of walking the length of Aotearoa New Zealand, but when you do it sticks with you until eventually one day you decide to give it a go. What a great way to get some exercise, see some beautiful countryside and have one hell of a life experience?!

This blog documents my experience of taking on Te Araroa, The Long Pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff--a journey of over 3000km from end to end. Will I make it? I don't know, but I'm keen to try! I'm no fitness freak (rather a confirmed couch potato) so aside from the obligatory assortment of bush-walking paraphernalia I'm setting out with little more than a desire to walk and the hope that my "two feet and a heartbeat" will be enough to get me through...

Note To Readers: I did it! I finished Te Araroa!! Unfortunately I am way behind on my blog but I promise to keep working on it so that you too can finish the adventure. Keep watching this space!

Day 77: Zero Day 12

So, I decided yesterday that I would take today off as yes, I do need to burn a day in order not to arrive at Burtton's Track, south of Palmerston North, before Saturday. Logging operations mean the several kilometres leading into the DOC track cannot be accessed during the week (maybe late at night but I don't want to chance it), and I'd rather burn a day staying with family than on my own in some random campground.

So I slept in this morning, getting up just in time to see Aevryl and Kenny off to work. I finished my book, had breakfast and showered and then spent most of the rest of the day blogging. In the afternoon I put the chicken on for dinner and then felt like a tool at dinner time because I forgot to wait for Grace, again!

After dinner we watched a few episodes of Firefly but soon got distracted by swapping travel stories. I hope to go to some of the places Aevryl and Kenny have been some day. They've had some adventures!

There's been a light rain off and on all day which as good as last I heard the huts in the Tararuas were running low on water. Hopefully it's been raining there as well!
